Cyber Security Adviser
Dr Sherif Hashem is the Senior Cyber Security Advisor to the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and the Executive Vice President of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency in Egypt. He is also a Professor at the Faculty of Engineering within Cairo University in Egypt.
He has held research positions at Purdue University, West Virginia University, Honeywell Sensor and Systems Development Centre and was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (all USA).
Since 2010 he has been the Chairman of the Council Working Group for online child protection at the International Telecommunication Union, and is a member of the United Nations Group of Government Experts on Security since August 2012. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Egypt Post and a member of the Board at Etisalat-Misr.
His awards and recognitions include the Global Bangemann Challenge Award – bestowed by the King of Sweden – and being listed in the Marquis Who’s Who millennium edition.
He holds a Bachelor’s in Communication and Electronic Engineering (with honours), a Master’s in Engineering Mathematics from Cairo University, Egypt, and a Doctorate in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University, USA. He also completed the Senior Executive Programme at the Harvard Business School, again USA.
